Orange and Blue

zara coat YSL baby cabas monogram

I may be partial to the colors Orange and Blue because I am a Florida Gator after all but I think they are also great for the spring weather we are having.  Spring is finally here and I have gone through my entire closet and purged all the items that I have not worn in over a year or do not fit properly.  I have about five bags of clothes that I will be donating!  I am very happy that my closet has all the pieces that I enjoy wearing and its not nearly as cluttered as it used to be.  The best part is finding and pairing items together that I previously hadn't before.  Closet organization is key and something I really enjoy doing.  I'll make sure to post pics of my before and after of my closet soon.

If I could give one piece of styling advice, it would be to "shop your closet".  Even just the smallest bit of tidying up will reveal so many great pieces that you didn't remember you have.  It is easy to get into a rut of pairing the same pieces together but just by changing a blouse or accessory, you can create an entirely new outfit.  That's how I feel about this orange blouse.  I haven't worn it in such a long time but I found a scarf in my closet that matched it perfectly.  After sorting through and getting rid of black slacks that didn't fit anymore, one of the pairs I was left with was this black one from Theory.  The fit is looser and more comfortable for spring and summer.

As part of my spring purge, I added two new pieces to my closet, this Zara coat and blue purse, which were purchased during my time in Milan.  These are two staples that I will use on a regular basis and will go with so many outfits.  Sometimes, all you need is to add one or two new items and your wardrobe has a new life!

Zara Knit Dress

Zara knit dress

Easter may have been sunny but don't let it fool you, it was still pretty cold.  After Easter Mass, I went over to my in-laws home for dinner.  My husband also had cousins in town so it was a huge family affair.  Being that it wasn't as warm as I would have liked, this knit dress from Zara was the best idea.  I really like the fit of this dress.  It hugs in all the right places without being tight.  The knit material isn't too thick which will allow me to still wear this in the warmer spring days.  It has the cutest bit of flare and the color pops during this sunny day.  I could have sworn pink was my favorite color but blue is quickly becoming another favorite.
I also used the Easter holiday as an opportunity to wear my wedding shoes!  I love these open toe Badgley Mischka heels.  The jewel embellishment is just the right amount of bling so I can pair it with a number of dresses in my closet, especially now for Spring!  Hope everyone had a lovely Easter holiday.

The Last Supper

Last supper Santa Maria del Grazie
Santa Maria del Grazi

With just one day left in Milan, it was another super packed adventure.  Italy has the cutest places for breakfast and I filled myself with chocolate croissants and fresh breakfast sandwiches every morning.  We started at a cute spot called Cocotte before heading to the Pinacotera di Brera Museum where we viewed amazing Renaissance pieces.  We took a little break from site-seeing and engaged in a little bit of shopping!  I scored some amazing deals which will appear on the site soon!

After grabbing another panzerotti from Luini, we headed to Santa Maria del Grazie to see the famous Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci.  This was the highlight of our trip.  It was surreal seeing this revered painting.  I was just in awe of its grandeur and connection to so much history.  Afterwards, we ventured to the Navigli district and went to the cocktail bar, Mag Cafe, before heading to Pizza AM for the best pizza I have eaten.   To end the evening, we went to Nottingham Forest, one of the top bars in the world!

This trip was one of my best travel experiences and I can't wait to go back one day!

Duomo di Milano

Duomo di Milano

The overcast weather in Milan called for casual outfits for the rest of our trip. It was colder and a bit rainy.  But it still did not dampen our spirits.  We spent the next two days sightseeing and walking around as much of the city as we could.  I mapped out our day and we left at breakfast and did not get back home until around midnight each night.  We definitely made the most of our time there.

For the first day of sightseeing, we headed straight to the Duomo.  It is the 5th largest church in the world and took nearly six centuries to complete.  I can see why. This church is expansive and the detailing is so impressive.  The amount of work that went into this church is admirable.  Its beauty is striking, and being able to walk among the buttresses on the roof is surreal.  Next, we headed to Luini, famous for their panzerotti!  It is fried pizza dough folded in half with a mozzarella and tomato filling inside.  It is basically a bit of heaven, and heaven won't be complete without gelato from Cioccolati Italiani! Now this is not your oridinary gelato, they fill the bottom of the cone with your choice of milk, white, or dark chocolate.  It is so decadent that I still dream about this gelato!

After walking around and going inside every church I walked by, it was time for an "apertivo",  Dry cocktails bar is a superb pizza and mixology bar that reminded me of a NYC bar.  There was one mixologist who was a gem to watch.  You could tell that  he takes great responsibility  in each cocktail he prepares.  We didn't  stay for pizza because we had reservations at Da Oscar.  After having the best gelato ever that day, I didn't think anything  could top it.  This restaurant  did with its casual atmosphere  and friendly staff.  I had the gnocchi with jalapeƱos and it was one of my best meals ever!  The flavors were intertwined so remarkably that the huge portion was no match for my appetite. From there we walked home to help work off our gigantic  meal.  This was a full but very pleasing day in Milan.

Since I knew I would be out all day and doing a number of activities, I kept it casual with skinny jeans, long sleeved blouse and a leather jacket.  This was comfortable  enough to tour around town and nice enough for drinks and a casual dinner.  With the rainy weather, this outfit  was easy to pull together and keep me warm  for our days adventure.

Milan

lockwood hat and h&m dress

Last month, my husband and I found an amazing flight deal to Milan and we jumped right on it.  It worked out perfectly since our one year anniversary was approaching.  This was the first time we went to Europe together and I thoroughly enjoyed being there and experiencing Milan with him.  Milan is such a magical city, it is after all, the fashion capital of the world.  Of course that is not the only reason I loved being there.  Italy is full of culture and I love going into the different cathedrals, exploring the various neighborhoods, having an "apertivo" at one of the many cocktail bars and eating all the amazing cuisine.

Our trip was pretty short but we made sure to pack in as much as possible.  We had the best weather on the day that we landed.  It was sunny and a reasonably warm enough temperature for me to wear a dress.  We stayed in an apartment very close to Via de Montenapoleone, the main shopping district of Milan.  This street is the Rodeo Drive of Milan.  The narrow streets are adorable and filled with local shoppers as well as those from all over the world making their way to Gucci or Prada or whichever high-end name they are venturing into that day.  It is definitely a site to see.

For our first day, we strolled through these streets and grabbed lunch in a cute restaurant set among the stores. I picked this H&M dress up before leaving town.  ***Also, on a side note, because of  the H&M Conscious campaign, they have bins in their stores for clothing donations and in NYC, they will give you a 15% coupon towards any item!***  This dress was comfortable enough to walk around and warm enough with the long sleeves to keep me warm when it got chilly.  I paired it with knee high boots, a wide brimmed hat and my reversible tote from Zara!  We ate at the quaint restaurant, Il Salumaio di Montenapoleone, where I had the best burrata appetizer ever!  This was just the start of our vacation and more pics of Milan to come!
